Classical Collections Network exhibition tour and workshop
‘Return of the Gods’ at World Museum Liverpool
Friday 6 October 2023, 11am – 4pm
Dear Classical Collections Network members,
You are invited to a curator-led tour of the exciting new exhibition ‘Return of the Gods’ at World Museum Liverpool, which runs from April 2023 to February 2024. Dr Chrissy Partheni, Curator of Classical Antiquities, will lead us through the exhibition and answer questions.
Taking inspiration from the exhibition, the day will also feature a workshop run by Dr Sally Waite, ‘Using Classical Collections Creatively’. In this interactive workshop (1.5 hours) we will consider how you can make the most of your Classical collection – even just a few objects – through small scale exhibitions and gallery interventions. The workshop will consist of an overview of recent work at the Great North Museum, Newcastle followed by informal group work with the aim of finding inspiration for new ways of working with Classical collections. We will be discussing potential themes and display strategies for exhibiting material both physically and digitally. All sizes of collection and all levels of expertise are very welcome.
There is no charge for this event, and the entrance fee for the exhibition has generously been waived by National Museums Liverpool. Places are limited, and will be assigned on a ‘first come first served’ basis. If you would like to attend, please contact connectingclassicalcollections@gmail.com to register your interest.
The Classical Collections Network is free to join and supports people working with Classical collections in UK museums. We welcome new members, so please do pass this on if you know anyone who might like to join the network and attend the event.
