Online evening lecture by Andrew Shapland of the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, on Tuesday 25th June at 7pm
Labyrinth: Knossos, Myth and Reality
The exhibition Labyrinth: Knossos, Myth and Reality took place at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford between February and July 2023. It was the first major exhibition to focus on the archaeological site of Knossos, covering the site’s mythology, discovery and subsequent excavation. It featured more than 200 objects, over 100 of which were on loan from Athens and Crete. Among the exhibits was a bespoke 4 minute film from Ubisoft’s 2018 video game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which showcased a digital recreation of the Palace of Knossos, echoing Sir Arthur Evans’s reconstructions. This talk will summarise the exhibition and associated research projects. It will present the results of the exhibition evaluation which covered both objects and digital elements.
The evening will also include the first Annual General Meeting of the network, which became a registered charity (Association CIO) last year. A formal agenda will follow closer to the time. This will be a short meeting, including a brief report on network activity.
Please save the date and come along to support the network. We need a quorum of members for the AGM so your attendance is warmly encouraged! Please email connectingclassicalcollections@gmail.com to register.
The event is for members only, but please pass on details to anyone you think might be interested to attend and encourage them to join the CCN.
